Falls of Ness

The Falls of Ness is a proper waterfall - nothing more, nothing less - and if you're in Crieff it's absolutely worth the short drive out to have a look. Water cascades down a rocky gorge with real force, especially after rain when it's genuinely impressive. The viewpoint itself is straightforward: you park up, walk a few minutes, and you're there looking at the whole thing without faffing about.

It's the kind of stop that works brilliantly if you've got kids who need to burn energy or if you're already exploring Perthshire and want to tick off a natural attraction without committing half your day. The walk is easy enough for most fitness levels, though the path can be slippy when wet so mind your footing. You're looking at maybe 20 minutes to do the whole thing properly - walk in, take some photos, walk back.

If you're staying at Braidhaugh Holiday Lodge or Alexander House, this makes for a decent morning outing before heading to bigger attractions in the area. It's free to visit, which is always a bonus. The best time to come is winter or early spring when there's proper water flow - summer can be a bit disappointing if there's been dry weather. Don't expect to spend hours here, but as a quick diversion from Crieff it does the job. The gorge setting is pleasant enough to justify a short visit, though it's not the kind of place that'll stay with you for months afterwards.
