Fairford Airshow Camping Park & View

The airshow at Fairford is properly brilliant if you catch it at the right time of year. This Royal Air Force base opens its gates for the International Air Tattoo each July, and the camping park right beside it gives you front-row seats to fast jets tearing across the sky. You're essentially pitching your tent metres from the runway - the noise is extraordinary, the whole experience genuinely unmissable for aviation enthusiasts.

During show week, the atmosphere is electric. Hundreds of aircraft from around the world park up on the tarmac, and you can walk the flight line in the morning before the flying starts. Kids absolutely lose their minds when a Spitfire screams overhead or when the Red Arrows perform their trademark close formation flying. It's not a casual stroll - the energy is intense, the crowds are massive, and you'll be on your feet for hours.

Outside of the airshow itself, the camping park operates year-round but it's the July event that justifies the trip. The site fills months in advance, so booking early isn't optional. Allow a full day minimum, though most people stay the weekend. If aviation isn't your thing, honestly, it won't do much for you - it's singular in purpose.

Great Farm just down the road offers a quieter alternative if you want to base yourselves nearby without the intensity. Fairford town centre is walkable and has decent pubs for post-flight decompression.
