The leisure centre sits on the edge of Beverley, a proper working sports facility rather than a tourist attraction dressed up as one. You'll find the usual indoor pool, gym, and sports halls - the kind of place locals actually use rather than somewhere that feels designed for postcards.

For families with younger kids, the pool is the main draw. It's got the shallow end and all the standard facilities you'd expect, though it's busier during school holidays and weekends when half of Beverley seems to have the same idea. If you've got teenagers keen on basketball or badminton, there are courts available for hire. Adults after a proper workout will find the gym reasonably equipped.

Admission isn't free, but day passes are modest if you're just stopping by for a swim or couple of hours. Check their website or ring ahead for exact pricing and opening hours - these things shift seasonally. Allow a couple of hours maximum, unless you're settling in for a serious gym session.

It works well as a rainy-day option when you're camped at Butt Farm or Burton Constable Holiday Park nearby. Neither are far - Burton Constable's actually got its own arboretum worth a wander, which might be the better bet for a full day out. But if you need to burn energy or squeeze in a swim between exploring Beverley's Georgian architecture and the surrounding parks, the leisure centre does the job without fuss.
