Electric Picture Palace

Walking into the Electric Picture Palace in Southwold, you're immediately transported back to a proper Edwardian theatre - all ornate gilt, velvet seats, and that unmistakable smell of old wood and cinema history. It's genuinely one of Britain's oldest continuously operating cinemas, and you can feel every year of it in the best possible way.

The place still shows films the old-fashioned way. There's no multiplexes nonsense here, no reserved seating apps. You turn up, buy your ticket, and settle in for a showing. The screen might be modest and the projection technology has been updated (thankfully), but the atmosphere is utterly unbeatable. It's the kind of cinema experience your grandparents would recognise.

Bring the kids if they're old enough to sit through a feature without needing a screen to stare at - younger ones might find the slower pace tedious. Film enthusiasts and anyone nostalgic for proper cinema will absolutely love it. It's the sort of place that reminds you why we fell in love with going to the pictures in the first place.

Southwold itself is a lovely East Anglian seaside town, good for a lazy afternoon stroll.
