Education Library

The Education Library sits within Oxford's academic heartland, a working research collection that actually lets you in rather than pretending to be some grand public showpiece. It's part of the Bodleian system, so you get proper access to materials on pedagogy, teaching methods, and educational theory that you won't find gathered elsewhere.

What you're doing here is browsing - genuinely browsing - rather than gawping at ancient manuscripts behind glass. The library holds journals, textbooks, archives, and practical resources covering everything from Victorian schooling to modern curriculum development. It's a working space, which means it has the feel of a real library rather than a museum pretending to be one.

If you're an educator, academic, or someone genuinely interested in how teaching has evolved, this is brilliant. It's not the sort of place families with young children will find engaging - there's no interactive elements or café to kill time in. Serious researchers and teachers, though, will find afternoons here properly rewarding.

Open weekdays only (9am to 5pm), and admission appears free though you may need to register or show ID. Allow at least two hours if you know what you're after, longer if you're browsing. From Diamond Caravan Park near Oxford it's a short drive into the city centre.

It won't be the highlight of your park holiday, but if you're stopping in Oxford anyway, it's worth an hour or two.
