Eccles Pike

The walk up Eccles Pike rewards you with proper views across the Peak District - nothing fancy, just honest moorland scenery that gets better the higher you climb. It's a modest peak by any measure, but the approach from Buxton is straightforward enough that families with decent legs can manage it without too much faffing about.

The summit itself is marked by a trig point, and on a clear day you'll see across to Mam Tor and the wider high moorland. The path is well-trodden, steep in places, and takes roughly an hour or so to reach the top depending on your pace. It's one of those walks where the effort-to-reward ratio is decent - not a full day's commitment, but far more satisfying than a car park stroll.

This works particularly well if you're based at Lime Tree Holiday Park or Buxton Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, both within easy striking distance. You could easily combine it with a potter around Buxton itself or time it for an afternoon when the light's best. Walkers will enjoy it more than families with young children; anyone over eight or nine would likely find it manageable though.

Weather matters here - cloud can roll in quickly and the views vanish. Go on a decent day or don't bother. Free to walk, obviously, and there's parking near the trailhead. Allow half a day if you're not rushing, less if you just want the exercise.
