East York Fields Paw Park

Dogs get their own patch of East Yorkshire at this dedicated off-lead space just outside York. It's a proper dog park - the kind where your spaniel can actually run without a lead for once, and you can have a decent cup of coffee knowing they're burning off energy instead of climbing the furniture at home.

The park itself is straightforward: open grassland where dogs roam free while owners stand about chatting or keeping half an eye on the chaos. There's no complicated terrain or obstacles, which means even elderly labs and puppies get something out of it. Peak times bring the usual pack energy - lots of sniffing, playing, the occasional scrap that amounts to nothing. Off-peak it's quieter, better for nervous dogs getting used to the place.

It's worth the visit if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots like Yapham Holds Farmhouse or Acorn Glade York, all within a few miles. You could easily combine it with a proper walk in the surrounding countryside or a day exploring York itself. The paw park won't eat up more than an hour of your time unless you're genuinely antisocial and want to sit there all afternoon.

Opening times and admission costs aren't published online, so ring ahead before you drive over with an excited dog in the back. Worth doing though - beats paying for kennels, and the dog will sleep properly afterwards.
