Seamour Wood

The woodland around Seamour stretches across East Yorkshire in a way that properly rewards a wander. It's the sort of place where you can lose an hour without meaning to, following paths that wind between mature trees and occasionally open onto small clearings. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter, which makes for soft walking underfoot, and the canopy filters light in that particular way that makes you forget what time it is.

Walkers will get the most out of it. It's not dramatic or challenging - just steady, contemplative woodland walking of the kind that works equally well as a solo morning constitutional or a proper family outing. The paths are straightforward enough that you won't need a map, though the lack of signage means you might end up somewhere unexpected, which is half the charm. Allow an hour or two depending on how aimless you want to be about it.

Based just outside York, it sits well within reach of several nearby glamping options - Acorn Glade and Yapham Holds are both within five miles - so it's a practical addition to a broader Yorkshire break rather than a destination in itself. The woodland is at its best in autumn when the light changes hour by hour, but any season works fine. It costs nothing and asks nothing of you except to turn up. On a decent day, it's proper worth the drive.
