East End Park

The moorland around Redruth doesn't look like much at first - industrial heritage and old mining country - but East End Park is where you get a genuine sense of what Cornwall's interior actually feels like without the coastal crowds. It's a proper nature reserve, the kind of place that rewards a slow walk rather than a quick Instagram stop.

You're looking at heathland habitat here, which means low scrub, gorse in yellow bursts if you time it right, and the kind of open views that let your head clear properly. The paths aren't dramatic - no dramatic clifftops - but they're good for walkers who want something honest rather than showy. Birdwatchers and botanists get genuine value; families with young kids might find the walking a bit samey after half an hour, though it's manageable terrain.

The beauty of staying at Lanyon Holiday Park, just 2.5 miles south, is that you can treat this as a morning walk rather than a destination trip. It breaks up a holiday nicely if you're based nearby - something between the beach days and the sitting-around time. Little Menherion Glamping is slightly further at 3.3 miles but still within easy striking distance.

Free to access as far as I can tell, and no particular hours to worry about. Go early if you want to spot birds properly, or late afternoon when the light gets warm across the moorland. It's exactly the sort of place that reminds you Cornwall was a working landscape long before it became a holiday destination.
