Dyserth to Prestatyn Way

The Dyserth to Prestatyn Way is a proper coastal walk that runs for about 7 miles along the North Wales shoreline, linking two unassuming seaside towns with one of the better stretches of beach in the area. It's nothing fancy - no dramatic cliffs or hidden coves - but it's a genuine, straightforward ramble that locals actually use rather than tourists queuing at some designated "scenic viewpoint".

You'll walk mostly along the sand and promenade, passing through Rhyl's seafront if you're doing the full route. The walk takes roughly two to three hours at an easy pace, and it's flat enough that older kids and grandparents won't find it gruelling. Bring decent shoes for the sand - it can get boggy in places - and check the tide times before you head out, as some sections become tricky at high water.

This is ideal if you're staying at one of the holiday parks nearby - Golden Sands or Parkdean Resorts Ty Mawr are both within striking distance - and want to get out without driving anywhere. It's a walker's walk rather than a sightseeer's attraction, so don't expect viewpoint markers or a visitor centre. What you get instead is fresh air, the chance to tire out the kids properly, and a real sense of the Welsh coast as it actually is, rather than how the postcards pretend it to be.
