The market round the duck pond in Uxbridge is one of those local fixtures that tourists mostly miss, which is rather their loss. You get proper market trading here - fruit and veg stalls, clothes, bits and pieces - all arranged around a small pond where, yes, there are actual ducks paddling about. It's got that everyday charm that Instagram won't help you with.

The real appeal is watching Uxbridge go about its business. Saturday mornings are your best bet, when the market's at full strength and there's actual energy to the place. You'll spot locals doing their weekly shop, stopping for a cup of tea, having a chat. It's the kind of thing you stumble into rather than plan for.

Not one for all-day entertainment, if we're honest. An hour's a good stretch, maybe ninety minutes if you're the type to browse every stall. Kids will be fine for a bit - the ducks hold attention for ten minutes or so - but don't expect them gripped for long.

If you're staying at Wyatts Covert, the campsite just outside town, the market's worth an easy trip in. It breaks up a park-based holiday nicely, gives you a feel for the actual town rather than just the holiday site. Uxbridge itself is busy and a bit sprawling, but the market's where it feels human-sized. Worth the short drive.
