Dubh Loch

You'll find Dubh Loch tucked away in the Argyll landscape a short drive from Taynuilt - it's one of those smaller lochs that doesn't make it onto every tourist itinerary, which is precisely why it's worth seeking out. The water sits dark and still, ringed by moorland and forest, with mountains rising beyond. It's genuinely quiet here, the kind of place where you actually hear the wind and the birds rather than camera shutters.

This is proper walking territory. There's a decent track that loops around the loch, taking maybe 45 minutes to an hour depending on your pace and how often you stop to look around. The views aren't dramatic in the Ben Nevis sense, but they're restful - exactly what you want if you're escaping the hustle. Families with younger children might find it a bit quiet - there's no visitor centre, no facilities, no obvious attractions beyond the walk itself.
