Drummond Hill

The walk up Drummond Hill from Pitlochry is a proper little gem that won't keep you slogging for hours. You're looking at maybe an hour and a half up, less coming back down if you don't stop for photos - though you will. The path climbs steeply through woodland before opening out onto moorland, and the views back toward Pitlochry and the Tummel Valley unfold gradually as you gain height. It's not a monster of a peak, which makes it ideal if you've got restless teens or want something that doesn't demand an Alpine start.

The summit itself is anti-climactic in the best way - you reach a cairn and suddenly the Perthshire landscape spreads out properly. Ben Vrackie dominates the view across the valley, and on clear days you can see far enough to make the climb worthwhile. The ground underfoot can be boggy in sections, so don't bother if it's been raining heavily.

This works brilliantly as a morning outing if you're based at Glengoulandie Camping & Caravanning nearby. You've time for a decent breakfast, crack up the hill, and be back by early afternoon. Families will manage it fine - kids who can walk steadily for an hour won't struggle. The biggest selling point is the views justify the effort without needing you to be mountain-fit. It's straightforward hiking, nothing technical, and the path's never obscure.
