Loch Farleyer

The water at Loch Farleyer sits perfectly still most mornings, a mirror reflecting the Perthshire hills that climb up around it. It's a small loch - nothing dramatic - but that's rather the point. You can walk the shoreline in under an hour, which makes it ideal if you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks and want a proper walk without committing your whole day to it.

This is walker territory, frankly. The banks are accessible enough for a decent ramble, and you get the kind of quiet that's increasingly hard to find. Families with young children might manage a section of it, though there's not much to keep them entertained beyond the water itself - no play park, no visitor centre, no shop. If your kids are the "spot wildlife and collect sticks" type, they'll be fine.

Loch Farleyer works best as part of a broader Pitlochry-based trip rather than a destination in itself. You're only a few miles from Aberfeldy Caravan Park and Glengoulandie Camping if you're staying put, and it pairs well with walks around Tummel Valley or a visit to Pitlochry town itself. The loch is free to access - there's no gate or charge - and you can turn up whenever suits you. Early morning or late afternoon tends to be when it looks best, when the light sits differently on the water.

Worth the detour from your campsite? Absolutely. Will it blow your mind? No. But that's not what it's for.
