Doune Hill

The walk up Doune Hill from Arrochar takes about two hours return and rewards you with proper views across Loch Long and the surrounding peaks. It's not a slog - the path is reasonably well-maintained, though you'll want decent boots if the ground's wet, which in Argyll it frequently is.

What makes it worthwhile is the perspective you get on the Arrochar Alps without the scramble and exposure of Ben Arthur. Based near Arrochar, you're well-positioned for the holiday parks - Inverbeg is just three and a half miles away with five-star reviews, and Forest Holidays Ardgartan is only a touch further. Both make sensible bases if you're planning several days in the area. Doune Hill fills the gap between lazy loch-side days and the more serious Alpine climbing further up the glen.
