Beinn Ìme

The walk up Beinn Ìme from Arrochar is one of those Scottish hills that looks properly intimidating from the road but rewards you for actually getting on with it. Standing at 1,011 metres, it's a real mountain rather than a gentle ramble, and the views from the top stretch across the Arrochar Alps and down to Loch Long in a way that makes the leg-work genuinely worthwhile.

The route starts near the village and climbs steadily through forest before opening out onto rougher terrain. It's not a technical scramble, but it demands respect - the weather can turn quickly up here, and you'll want proper boots and a map. Most walkers allow four to five hours for the round trip, depending on fitness and how long you linger at the summit. The views are best on clear days, which in Argyll means you might need to time it carefully.

This is squarely for hillwalkers and experienced day-trippers rather than casual strollers. Kids who are confident on longer walks will manage it, but younger ones will struggle with the distance and gradient. Summer months are sensible, though the hill is walkable year-round if you're properly equipped.
