Doonies Hill

The walk up Doonies Hill takes roughly twenty minutes from Footdee, and it's a properly quick way to shake off the cobwebs if you're staying at Seaview Caravan Park. Nothing dramatic about the summit itself - it's not a peak that demands respect or special kit - but the views across Aberdeen and out towards the coast make it worth the leg work. You get a proper sense of the city's shape from up here, and on a clear day the horizon extends far enough to make you feel like you've actually earned a bit of fresh air. The walk itself is straightforward, though it can be boggy in patches depending on the weather. Locals use it regularly, which is always a good sign. The hill works brilliantly as a half-hour detour if you're exploring the area, rather than a destination in itself. Families with older kids will find it manageable, but younger children might find it unremarkable - there's no playground or café at the top to extend the visit. Best tackled on a weekend morning when the light's good and the wind hasn't picked up too much from the sea. Free to access, naturally. Worth doing if you're based nearby and want a gentle escape from caravan park life, but don't rearrange your itinerary specially for it.
