Sea Moon

Sea Moon is a gallery tucked into Aberdeen's Footdee district, right where the city meets the coast. It's a modest space but one that punches above its weight if you're into contemporary visual work. The focus shifts regularly, so what you'll encounter depends entirely on when you visit - I've seen everything from photography that actually makes you stop and stare to installations that are frankly a bit too conceptual for their own good.

Footdee itself is the real draw here. This former fishing village has character in spades - cobbled streets, old stone cottages, the working harbour still operating just as it did centuries ago. Sea Moon slots neatly into a proper wander around the neighbourhood, maybe stopping for fish and chips at one of the local spots after.

It's worth an hour if you're in the area, though don't expect to lose a whole afternoon. The gallery appeals most to anyone with a genuine interest in contemporary art rather than casual browsers. Admission appears to be free, which is always a bonus. If you're staying at Seaview Caravan Park just down the road (cracking location, that), you're barely ten minutes away, so it's an easy detour before or after a seaside walk.
