Dipping Platform

The Dipping Platform sits right on the water's edge near Morpeth, a proper spot for a break during a riverside walk. It's exactly what it sounds like - a wooden platform built out over the river where you can dip your feet in or just sit and watch the water pass. The thing is functional rather than fancy, but that's rather the point.

You'll want to bring a picnic if you're planning to settle in for a while. There's space to spread out, and on a decent day it's genuinely peaceful - the kind of place where an hour disappears without you noticing. Kids will either love paddling here or find it dull within ten minutes depending on their temperament. Walkers doing the longer routes through the area tend to use it as a natural stopping point.

No entry fee that we can find, and it's free to use whenever you fancy. Best to come in warmer months if you're actually planning to get in the water - a dip in January holds limited appeal. The platform does get muddy underfoot in wet weather, so decent shoes are worth considering.

Staying at Tranwell Farm Holidays or Sandy Bay, you're close enough that this works as a half-hour detour on a circular walk. It won't take your breath away, but it's the sort of genuine, low-key spot that makes a park holiday feel properly local rather than touristy.
