A proper woodland walk just outside Blackburn, Dinckley Wood offers exactly what you want from a Lancashire forest - tall trees, decent footpaths, and enough greenery to feel genuinely away from it all even though you're minutes from the town centre. The woodland itself isn't vast, but it's dense enough that you lose sight of the surrounding countryside once you're among the oaks and pines. Most people can work their way through the main paths in under an hour, though if you're after a longer ramble you can link it to nearby trails. It's free, which is the best kind of local secret.

If you're staying at Beacon Fell View or Brickhouse Caravan Park, this makes an easy afternoon venture - short enough for families with younger kids who aren't ready for a full day hike, but engaging enough that adults won't feel short-changed. The paths are reasonably well-maintained, though it can get muddy after rain, so proper boots matter. Spring's lovely here when the woodland floor comes alive.
