If your kids are obsessed with diggers, JCBs and anything that moves earth, Diggerland Kent near Aylesford is genuinely brilliant. You get to actually operate the machinery yourself - not watch from a distance while someone else has the fun. Children climb into real construction equipment and shift soil, dig holes, and generally wreck things in the most controlled, supervised way possible. It's absolutely filthy and they'll come out looking like they've been down a mine, which is half the appeal.

The park suits ages roughly five to fourteen best, though younger kids can have a go with adult help. Teenagers might find it a touch basic if they're after thrills, but there's something satisfying about handling genuine kit that keeps most of them engaged. Allow three to four hours to get through everything without rushing. Admission costs money, but it's competitive with other Kent attractions and the experience is genuinely different from the usual theme park fare.

Staying locally works well - Kits Coty Glamping and Badgells Wood Camping are both close by and rated highly by families. Diggerland fits neatly into a broader Kent holiday that might include Bewl Water or other park-based activities in the area. The site's pretty muddy underfoot even when it hasn't rained, so bring a change of shoes and accept that your car will need a hoover afterwards. Worth the detour if you've got machinery-mad kids.
