Dawlish Warren Golf Club

The golf course at Dawlish Warren sits right where the Exe Estuary opens up to the sea, which means you're playing across some genuinely spectacular terrain. It's a links-style layout that takes full advantage of the sandy peninsula - dunes, marram grass, and views across the water. Not a championship course, but that's rather the point. The rough can be punishing if you're off line, and the wind off the estuary will catch you out. Walkers and non-golfers get something from just being here too. The whole area is properly scenic, and you can easily wander the perimeter without irritating anyone.

Golfers will find it a solid day out, particularly if you're a mid-range player who doesn't need manicured fairways to enjoy yourself. The course has character - quirky, a bit wild in places, the sort of spot where you feel the landscape rather than simply playing on it. Most visitors are members or day visitors from nearby holiday parks like Golden Sands or Leadstone Camping, which are barely a mile away. It's the kind of place families might pop past on a coastal walk rather than a dedicated detour, but if you golf, it's worth booking a round while you're staying in the area. Dawlish town itself is just down the coast - seaside arcade stuff, sandy beach, fish and chips - so the course slots nicely into a proper South Devon week.
