David Keswick Athletic Centre

The David Keswick Athletic Centre sits on the edge of Dumfries, a proper sports facility rather than a tourist draw. It's the kind of place locals use for indoor training, competitions and the occasional community event - not somewhere you'd plan a day around unless you're genuinely keen on watching athletics or need a gym session.

What you get here are standard indoor athletic facilities: a track, jumps area, and the usual gym kit. On competition days there's energy and purpose to the place. Otherwise it's fairly functional and institutional - think Portakabins and fluorescent lighting rather than Victorian grandeur.

Families with athletic kids might find it useful if there's a school holiday event on, but it's not the sort of venue that holds much appeal for casual visitors. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Newbridge Country Park or Marthrown of Mabie are within a few miles - and you've got a teenager who wants to burn off energy during a wet Scottish afternoon, it could fill an hour. But don't expect Instagram moments or anything particularly memorable.

The real Dumfries attractions are elsewhere in town: the high street shops, the museum, Sweetheart Abbey just outside. This centre is functional infrastructure, not heritage tourism. Skip it unless you're after a specific sporting event or your accommodation is literally next door.
