Dark Lantern

Standing stones mark the site where a beacon once guided travellers across Cannock Chase's treacherous heathland. Dark Lantern takes its name from the warning light that burned here for centuries, helping wayfarers avoid the boggy ground that could swallow horse and rider whole.

The site works well as part of a day out exploring Cannock Chase, especially if you're staying at one of the holiday parks dotted around the area like Silver Trees or Chase Camping at Tackeroo. Just don't expect a grand castle or elaborate ruins - this is more about atmosphere and that cracking view across Staffordshire's ancient hunting ground.
