Daffy Copse

Daffy Copse is a proper woodland walk just outside Marlborough - the sort of place locals know about but visitors often miss entirely. It's not a manicured nature reserve with signage and car parks; it's just trees, paths, and the occasional clearing where you can actually breathe in the Wiltshire air without hearing the A4.

What you get is a straightforward forest walk through mixed woodland. There's no visitor centre, no tearoom, no entrance fee that I'm aware of - just woodland on your terms. The main appeal is the quiet. On a weekday morning you could walk for twenty minutes and not see another soul. It's the kind of place that works brilliantly if you've had enough of manicured attractions and want something real.

Families with young children will find it decent for an hour or so, though there's nothing specifically kid-focused here - no rope courses or play areas. It's better suited to walkers who want a gentle leg-stretcher or anyone needing a proper break from the caravan. The paths are manageable, nothing technical.

Timing-wise, allow ninety minutes if you want to actually explore without rushing. Early morning or late afternoon will be quietest. If you're staying at Hillview Park or Ridgeway Campsite - both just a couple of miles away - this is absolutely worth the short drive or cycle. It fits the pattern of a proper park holiday where you're mixing family time with actual countryside instead of fairgrounds. Go in autumn when the light filters through gold leaves. That's when Daffy Copse actually justifies the trip.
