The industrial estate name is misleading - Crow Arch Lane is actually a proper nature reserve tucked away near Ringwood, and it's where you come if you want to see something of Dorset's working heathland without the crowds. The site has paths through heather and gorse, with sightings of the birds and insects that make these habitats special. Adders, sand lizards, and nightjars turn up here regularly, so if you're a wildlife spotter, bring binoculars and patience.

It's manageable on foot for families, though younger kids might find it a bit samey after an hour or so - there's not a play area or facilities, so pack water and come with a clear plan. The best time is early morning in spring and summer when you'll actually see the creatures rather than just walk past empty heathland. Allow ninety minutes to two hours if you're doing the main loop properly.
