Càrnan Cruithneachd

The walk up Càrnan Cruithneachd from Kyle takes you straight into proper Highland terrain - nothing fancy, just steep hillside and big views. It's a Munro, so expect proper hiking boots and a decent couple of hours if you're not racing. The summit gives you the Kintail ridges spread out below, Loch Duich glinting away to the west. On a clear day (rare, let's be honest) you can see for miles. On a murky one, you're basically climbing into cloud and trusting the map.

This isn't a tourist-trap peak with a shop at the top. It's a genuine hill walk for people who actually like hills - families with older kids who don't mind a slog, serious walkers gearing up for longer Kintail adventures. You'll want three to four hours minimum including the descent. The route from Kyle is straightforward enough, though it's relentlessly uphill and the path gets loose in places.

Glenshiel Campsite sits barely five miles away and makes a sensible base if you're doing this as part of a broader Highland push. It's the sort of walk that feels proper exertion without needing technical skills - just fitness and decent weather planning. Go early to avoid the afternoon murk rolling in.
