Càrn na Marbh

You won't find gift shops or visitor centres here - just a Bronze Age cairn sitting quietly on the Perthshire moorland above Pitlochry, waiting for people curious enough to find it. Càrn na Marbh is a proper archaeological site, the kind where you're actually standing on something genuinely ancient, not looking at it through glass.

The cairn itself is substantial - a heap of stones that's been there for roughly 3,500 years, serving as a burial monument for whoever mattered enough to get this level of effort. The landscape around it tells as much of a story as the stones themselves. You get proper Highland views from up there, the sort that explain why people lived here and why they'd want to be remembered in this particular spot.

It's a site for walkers and archaeology types rather than casual passers-by. You're not walking up to a nice interpretive board; you're doing a bit of navigation, getting some proper air in your lungs, and standing where Bronze Age communities once did rituals. Allow a couple of hours if you're making an expedition of it from Pitlochry - the walk rewards effort with solitude.

Free to visit, obviously. No facilities, no crowds. Go early or late in the day for the best light.
