Crianlarich Community Woodland

The woodland spreads across a proper chunk of hillside above Crianlarich, all conifers and birch with tracks that wind through the lot of it. You're looking at a working forest really - timber operations happen here - but there's genuine space to walk, and the views back down the valley toward the Trossachs are worth the leg work.

It's best suited to walkers who don't mind a straightforward trudge rather than a technical hike. Kids will find it fine if they're the sort to entertain themselves with sticks and stones; toddlers will struggle with the gradient. The forest floor is soft underfoot and it's cool even on warm days, which makes a welcome change if you're tent-bound at Tyndrum Holiday Park or Beinglas Campsite nearby.

There's nothing fancy here - no visitor centre, no marked trails with interpretation boards. That's the appeal, really. You head in, pick a direction, and walk. Some folk head for higher ground if they've got the energy; others do a shorter loop and call it done. Call ahead to Crianlarich village if you want specifics on access or any current works.

Allow a couple of hours if you're making a proper go of it, or do a quick 45-minute spin if you're just after a leg-stretch between campsites. The place fills a gap in a Scottish Lowlands trip nicely - close enough to the central belt to feel accessible, but far enough into proper woodland to feel like you've left something behind.
