Crianlarich Church

The modest kirk sitting above Crianlarich village isn't going to knock you sideways, but it's worth the brief detour if you're tramping through the Lowlands. Stone walls, a simple interior, and the kind of quiet that actually means something in a place like this. You'll spend maybe twenty minutes here, half of that just sitting in the pews if you're the reflective type.

It's the setting that does the work. The church sits at a decent elevation, so you get decent views across the glen - proper Highland stuff even though you're technically in the Lowlands. The walk up from the village takes ten minutes, nothing strenuous. On a clear day it's worth doing. On a grey one, less so.

Historically it's not a showstopper, but locals treat it with proper respect and that counts for something. Families with young kids won't find much to occupy them here, but if you're doing a proper walking holiday around Tyndrum Holiday Park or Beinglas Campsite, it's a natural stop on your way through. The kind of place that reminds you why you came to rural Scotland in the first place - not for attractions, but for the space between them.

No entry fees that I could find, and it's usually accessible during daylight. Bring the camera if you've got one. The light's often better in late afternoon.
