Creagan Loch

The walk up Creagan Loch, near Aberfeldy, rewards you with genuinely impressive views across Perthshire without requiring serious mountaineering skills. It's a proper hill rather than a peak - you're looking at a few hours of steady climbing through mixed woodland and moorland, with the landscape opening up as you gain height.

What makes it worthwhile is the vantage point itself. On a clear day, you get sight lines across to the Tay Valley and beyond, with Ben Lawers visible in the distance. The climb isn't relentlessly steep, which means walkers of moderate fitness can manage it without it becoming a slog. Families with older children do it regularly, though the path can be boggy underfoot - proper boots essential.

Allow three to four hours for the round trip, depending on pace and whether you stop to admire the view (you should). There's no visitor centre or facilities at the summit, so bring water and a packed lunch if you're settling in for an hour up top. Being free to access is a genuine bonus.
