Creag nan Leachda

The walk up Creag nan Leachda from Ballater is proper straightforward but rewards you with views that justify the effort. It's not a massive peak - more a solid hill walk than a scramble - and you'll be up and down in a couple of hours without pushing yourself too hard.

The real draw is what unfolds as you climb. The Cairngorms spread out behind you, and on a clear day you can see right across Deeside. If you're basing yourself at Braemar Caravan Park, it's barely twenty minutes' drive to get going, making it ideal for a morning sortie before heading elsewhere. The peak itself is windier than you'd expect for its height, so layers matter. Most people allow two to three hours total. Free to walk, obviously. Go on a weekday if you can - it stays quiet while the bigger Cairngorm peaks pull the crowds.
