Creag Bhrosgan

The walk up Creag Bhrosgan from Cairndow is a proper leg-stretcher rather than a slog, with the summit rewarding you with views across Loch Fyne and into the Argyll hills beyond. It's not a famous peak - you won't find crowds here - which is precisely why it's worth doing if you're staying in the area.

The ascent takes roughly two hours there and back, depending on fitness and how much time you spend pottering about at the top. The path is mostly straightforward, though boggy in places after rain. In summer, it's a cracking spot for walkers who want something more than a stroll but less punishing than Ben Ime or the higher stuff across the water. Families with older kids will manage it fine; little ones might struggle with the terrain and duration.

If you're based at Forest Holidays Ardgartan or Drimsynie Holiday Village - both within easy striking distance - this makes a decent morning or early afternoon outing before heading back for a late lunch. The drive from Cairndow is minimal. Free to walk, naturally, and you can start pretty much whenever suits you.

It's not Instagram-famous, and the views, while genuinely lovely, aren't earth-shattering compared to bigger peaks nearby. But that's the charm of it. You get the glen, the loch, and barely another soul on the hill. Go midweek in shoulder season if possible - weekends can get busier, and you'll want good visibility for the views to justify the effort.
