Creachan Beag

The walk up Creachan Beag from near Dunoon is a proper little hill rather than a slog. You're looking at a straightforward ascent through woodland that opens onto moorland, with Loch Eck sprawling below you on one side and views across to the Cowal Peninsula on the other. On a clear day - and you'll want to time it for one - the vistas justify the effort.

The peak itself offers a natural stopping point, so you can eat your sandwiches and actually enjoy where you've walked to rather than rushing back.

Base yourself at one of the nearby parks - Loch Eck Caravan Park is closest and puts you minutes from the trailhead, whilst Stratheck Holiday Park offers similar proximity. Both sit in that sweet spot of being close to walks without being in the middle of nowhere. Creachan Beag fits neatly into a wider Cowal Peninsula itinerary, especially if you're mixing coastal walks with hill time. Go on a weekday if possible - weekends can get busy with folk from the Glasgow conurbation heading out. The moorland can be boggy after rain, so pick your weather window carefully.
