Craigy Hill

The walk up Craigy Hill takes about forty minutes if you're moving at a decent pace, and the views across East Lothian are genuinely worth the effort. It's not a dramatic peak - nothing like the Borders hills further south - but there's something satisfying about climbing a proper viewpoint that isn't mobbed with tourists.

The summit gives you a decent panorama across the Lowlands, with clear sightlines down to the coast and back toward the Lammermuir Hills. On a decent day you can see for miles. Walkers will appreciate the gentle gradient and the fact that it doesn't require scrambling or technical footwork - just a straightforward hoof uphill.

There's not much at the top beyond the view and a bit of breathing space, so it works best as part of a longer walk rather than a destination in itself. Families with younger kids might find the effort-to-payoff ratio a bit steep, though teenagers will manage it fine. The surrounding countryside is proper rolling farmland, which some people find lovely and others find a touch dull depending on the light.

It's the sort of walk that eats a couple of hours without feeling arduous, and you can peg it back to the park with time for an evening meal. Free to do, naturally.
