Craig na Hash

The walk up Craig na Hash starts gently enough from Perth, but don't let that fool you - this peak has real teeth. You're climbing roughly 900 metres of Perthshire moorland, and the views back towards the city and across to the wider Tay valley make every step count.

What makes it work is the simplicity. There's no faffing about with visitor centres or peak-bagging nonsense - you just get your boots on and go. The summit itself is a proper vantage point, the kind of spot where you genuinely understand the landscape spreading out below you. On a clear day you can pick out Ben Lomond and beyond. This is one for walkers with reasonable fitness rather than families after a stroll. Allow four to five hours return, depending on your pace and how long you stand about admiring the view. The path is well-trodden but can be boggy in places - waterproof boots aren't optional. Spring through autumn works fine, though summer gives you the best chance of clear skies.
