Craig Hill

The walk up Craig Hill from Aberfeldy isn't technically demanding, but it rewards you with proper views across the Tay Valley towards the Grampians. You're looking at roughly an hour and a half to the summit if you're moving at a steady pace - less if you're fit, more if you're stopping for photos, which you will be.

It's a straightforward hill walk rather than a scramble, making it ideal for families with older kids or anyone wanting something achievable without serious climbing boots. The path itself is well-trodden and doesn't require navigation skills. On a clear day you can see for miles. On a cloudy day, you can see about fifty metres, so timing matters.

Do it early in the day if you're staying at one of the local parks. Aberfeldy Caravan Park sits closest, though if you want genuinely top-notch facilities, Pitilie Pods a couple of miles further out punches well above its weight. Glengoulandie, another couple of miles on, is equally solid if you're after traditional camping. All three put you within striking distance of the walk.

Free to access, naturally - just a standard footpath affair. Allow two to three hours total if you're not rushing, and bring proper waterproofs even when the sky looks promising. Perthshire weather changes its mind constantly. Worth doing before or after tackling the bigger peaks nearby, assuming you're in the area for a few days.
