Craig Cwlwm

The walk up Craig Cwlwm from Pwllheli isn't long, but it's steep enough to make your legs complain. On a clear day - and you want a clear day for this one - you get views across the Cardigan Bay that properly take your breath away. The peak itself is modest in height but commands the landscape around it, with the Llŷn Peninsula spreading out beneath you like a map someone's left unfurled on a table.

This is a walker's destination, pure and simple. Not a casual stroll. Families with older kids who don't mind a bit of graft will get something out of it, but bring a toddler and you'll regret the decision halfway up. Allow two to three hours for the round trip, depending on fitness and how long you linger at the top. There's no café, no visitor centre, no facilities - just the mountain and whatever views the weather decides to offer.

Worth doing if you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots like Glampio Coed or Treheli Farm - both are excellent and only a short drive away. It works well as a morning outing before heading into Pwllheli for lunch, or as a late afternoon walk if you time it right with the light. The path can be boggy after rain, so pick your day carefully. Free to access, naturally. It's the kind of place that rewards effort without asking much in return.
