Coton Hill Community Woodland

Wide views across Shrewsbury and the Severn valley open up through the trees at this well-established community woodland on the town's northern edge. What started as a local volunteer project has grown into a proper patch of mixed woodland with decent walking paths - nothing too strenuous, mind you, but enough to stretch your legs for an hour or so.

Families with younger children will find it just right for a gentle wander. The paths are well-maintained and there's enough space for kids to run about without getting properly lost. Dog walkers seem to love it here, and you'll often spot locals using it as their regular morning route.

The woodland feels most rewarding in spring when the bluebells are out, though autumn brings its own rewards with the changing colours. Summer can be a bit buggy under the canopy, but that's woodland walking for you. From what I could tell, it's free to wander - no gates or fees to worry about.
