Cors Bodgyndd National Park

Cors Bodgyndd is a proper wetland landscape - think boggy marshland rather than dramatic peaks, which catches some visitors off guard when they're expecting Snowdonia scenery. It's part of the Conwy Valley's quieter side, tucked between Betws-y-Coed and the main tourist routes, and it genuinely rewards a slow walk. The peat bog and reed beds support rare plants and birds that you won't see anywhere else locally. Walkers find it compelling; families with restless kids might struggle since there's no obvious 'destination' to aim for.

The experience is about rhythm and patience. Morning visits when the light hits the water are when it works best. You'll need proper footwear - it's wet underfoot most of the year, and in summer the mosquitoes can be biblical. Allow two hours for a decent loop, though you could easily spend three if you've brought binoculars and a bird book.

It fits naturally into a Conwy Valley touring holiday. Conwy Valley Touring Park, just 2.5 miles away, makes an excellent base if you want to combine this with walks in Snowdonia proper - Betws-y-Coed is only minutes away and offers all the cafes and shops you'll need. The bog itself is free to access and open year-round, though spring and early summer are when it's most interesting for wildlife spotters. Winter can be grim - grey, wet, and rather bleak - so plan accordingly.
