Corringer Hill

The walk up Corringer Hill rewards you with proper views across the Pennine foothills - nothing dramatic, but the kind of wide-open moorland panorama that makes the climb worthwhile. It's a modest peak by any standard, rising above Barnoldswick in Lancashire, but on a clear day you can see far enough to justify the trudge up.

This is walker territory, no question. The route itself isn't taxing - most people manage it in under an hour - but it's the sort of place where you'll want proper boots and waterproofs. The ground can be boggy after rain, and the wind picks up once you're exposed. Kids will manage it fine if they're used to hills, though the views alone won't hold their attention for long once they've reached the top.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, so come prepared. Free to access, naturally, since it's open moorland. Best visited in late morning when the light's good and clouds tend to lift - afternoon mist can roll in quickly up here.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks like Thornton Hall Country Park or Shay Gate Farm Campsite, Corringer Hill makes a solid half-day outing. Combine it with a walk around the quieter bits of the Pennine Way or explore Barnoldswick itself for a fuller day. It won't blow your mind, but it's honest work and the Pennine air does something to clear your head.
