Coronation Drinking Fountain

There's a Victorian drinking fountain on a Rotherham street corner that doesn't look like much until you realise what it actually celebrates. The Coronation Drinking Fountain was put up in 1902 to mark Edward VII's coronation, and it's still standing, still functional if you're brave enough to use it. The craftsmanship is the thing - ornate ironwork, proper stonework, the kind of detail that went into public utilities back then because they mattered.

It's worth a look if you're already in Rotherham town centre, though I'll be honest, you won't spend long here. Five minutes maximum. This isn't an attraction that anchors a day out. What it does do is give you a sense of how Victorian towns celebrated major events. Every high street used to have one of these fountains. Most are gone now.

History buffs and architecture spotters will get more from it than families with young kids, though kids might enjoy the novelty of spotting such an old structure still in use. The nearest real draw for a holiday is Hooton Lodge Farm, less than two miles away - a proper base if you're exploring South Yorkshire. Use the fountain as a curiosity break while you're wandering Rotherham's older streets, not as your reason to visit.

Free to look at, obviously. No opening hours to worry about since it's outdoors. Go whenever you're in town.
