Beacon Hill

That said, if you're just after a brisk leg-stretcher with some perspective on the landscape, it delivers. Kids might find the exposed hilltop thrilling or tedious depending on their mood and age - a group of under-eights could get bored once they've reached the top.

Rotherham sits just down the way, and the hill works perfectly as a half-day outing if you're basing yourself at one of the touring parks nearby. Hooton Lodge Farm and Sunnyview are both within three miles, making this an easy morning circuit before heading back for lunch. Bawtry caravan park, slightly further out, also has convenient access. Allow roughly ninety minutes for the walk and time on top, depending on fitness. Weather matters here - mist kills the view entirely, so check conditions before heading out.
