Coral Cave

Deep beneath the Mendip Hills, limestone has been carved into spectacular underground chambers that few visitors ever discover. Coral Cave sits quietly in the shadow of its famous neighbour, Gough's Cave, but delivers an equally impressive subterranean experience without the crowds. The formations here are particularly striking - flowstone cascades and delicate stalactites create cathedral-like spaces that feel almost otherworldly. Unlike the main Cheddar show caves, this one retains a more intimate, exploratory atmosphere. You'll find yourself genuinely impressed by the scale of some chambers, especially considering how modest the entrance appears from above. Families with older children will love the adventure aspect, though very young ones might find the cooler temperatures and dim lighting a bit much. The cave maintains a constant temperature year-round, making it a proper retreat on scorching summer days when you're camping nearby. Budget around two hours if you want to take your time with photos and really appreciate the geology.
