Coppice Leasowes Nature Reserve

The woodland paths through Coppice Leasowes are easy on the legs and genuinely rewarding if you catch the place when it's quiet. It's a proper working nature reserve just outside Church Stretton, the sort of place where you might actually spot something interesting rather than trudge past manicured flowerbeds. The reserve mixes mature woodland with younger coppiced areas - that's where the name comes from - so you get good variety in habitat and, in spring especially, the bird life picks up noticeably.

Walkers will appreciate the relatively flat terrain, which makes it manageable for families with younger kids. You could spend anywhere from an hour to three hours depending on how seriously you take the birdwatching or how many false trails you wander down. There's a genuine sense of conservation happening here rather than it being a tourist tick-box, which some people find refreshing and others find a bit understated.

The real test is whether you're genuinely interested in spotting woodpeckers and warblers, or if you just want a nice woodland stroll. If you're the latter, it does the job without drama. If you're camping at Small Batch or Alderwood Glamping nearby, it's an easy detour on a morning walk. Not essential, but solid for a half-day if the weather holds and you've got binoculars handy.
