Coneygreehill Coppice

Walk into Coneygreehill Coppice and you're immediately under a proper canopy of mature woodland - the kind of place where the light filters through in dappled patches and you can actually hear yourself think. It's a modest forest near Newent in Gloucestershire, nothing fancy, but genuinely peaceful if you want to escape the caravan sites for an hour or two.

There are woodland paths threading through, good for a straightforward ramble without any real scrambling required. The trees are well-established and the undergrowth fairly thick, so it feels like proper forest rather than managed parkland. Families with young kids will manage fine on the main tracks, though it's not a destination in itself - more of a useful pocket of green to visit when you're based nearby.

Walkers and anyone after a bit of forest air will get the most from it. It's the sort of place you don't need to spend hours planning - just turn up and wander. No visitor centre, no facilities that we can find, and it's entirely free. Allow 45 minutes to an hour for a decent walk if you're not rushing.

If you're staying at one of the caravan parks dotted around Newent - Up Sticks Glamping, Pelerine, The Turbles, or any of the others within a five-mile radius - this makes a decent addition to a day out. It's close enough to pop to without eating into holiday time, but don't expect crowds or infrastructure. Just trees, paths, and quiet.
