Coneygar Hill

The walk up Coneygar Hill rewards you with proper views across Bridport and out towards the Jurassic Coast - nothing dramatic, but on a clear day you can see a fair way. It's a modest peak by any standard, the kind of thing locals probably don't think twice about, but if you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks - Highlands End or West Bay are practically on your doorstep - it's worth an hour of your time.

The climb itself is straightforward. You're not scrambling up anything technical, just a steady trudge through fields with decent footpaths. Families with reasonably mobile kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might grumble about the lack of obvious payoff at the top. The real appeal is the walk itself rather than any landmark or cafe waiting for you - it's peaceful, rarely crowded, and genuinely pleasant on a soft Dorset morning.

Allow 90 minutes there and back from the base if you're not dawdling. Spring and early summer are best - the light's golden and the countryside looks its best. Winter walks are grimmer; it gets muddy and the views disappear into drizzle more often than not.

If you're staying at Freshwater Beach or Golden Cap Holiday Park, this fits neatly into a morning before heading down to the coast. Bridport itself is close enough for lunch afterwards. It's not the sort of thing that'll make your holiday, but it's the sort of thing that fills a morning pleasantly when the weather's kind.
