You're looking at an outdoor installation that's genuinely striking when you realise the scale of it. The detail work is extraordinary - each pebble positioned with real precision to create those radiating compass lines. It works particularly well if you've got an interest in public art or land art, and it's free, which is always a bonus.

Kids will get a kick out of it for about ten minutes, then they'll want to know what's next. It's more of a worthwhile detour than a destination in itself - something to swing by if you're already in Rotherham rather than plan a trip around. Bring a camera because the aerial view is what sells it.

If you're staying at Hooton Lodge Farm, just 3.5 miles away, or the highly-rated Waleswood Caravan & Camping Park slightly further out, the mosaic makes for an easy morning stop before heading elsewhere in South Yorkshire. Best visited on a clear day when the light catches the pebbles properly.
