Coln House School River Bank Project

The river bank beside Coln House School is a proper spot for a picnic if you're camping at Great Farm or Second Chance just outside Fairford. It's not a formal visitor attraction - more a community project that's opened up access to the water's edge, which around here is rarer than you'd think.

You get a bit of riverbank where the Coln flows past, some benches, and the kind of peace that makes you wonder why you don't do this more often. It's ideal for families staying at the holiday parks who want to get the kids out without driving anywhere. A short walk from Great Farm, honestly. The setting is genuinely lovely - proper Cotswolds, with fields rolling back from the water and the occasional trout rise if you're paying attention.

There's not much to do here beyond sitting, eating sandwiches, and watching the water move. Some people fish. Kids can paddle if the water level's sensible. You won't need more than an hour here unless you're the type who likes to sit for hours anyway.

Fairford's close enough for supplies - the town's got decent shops and pubs - but bring everything you need if you're coming straight from the campsite. No facilities here that I could see. The best time is probably spring or early autumn when the weather's cooperative but you're not fighting summer crowds.

Worth the detour if you're already in the area and want a genuinely quiet riverside sit-down. Don't come expecting attractions or activities.
