It's free to get in, which immediately takes the pressure off. The collection runs to around 20,000 specimens - birds, mammals, reptiles, insects - and while the presentation is a bit dated, that's rather part of the charm. School groups tend to make a beeline for it, and they're right to; kids find the dead animals far more engaging than you'd expect, especially if they're into wildlife or biology.
